Hydroponic Tower is a vertical modular soilless growing system designed for high-density cultivation in commercial greenhouses, indoor vertical farms and fruit-picking gardens. Unlike horizontal hydroponic troughs and square pipes that occupy large ground space, this upright column structure fully exploits vertical air space to maximize planting capacity within limited floor area. It is widely used to grow lettuce, basil, microgreens and dwarf strawberries. By removing soil from the growing process, the hydroponic tower effectively avoids soil-borne pathogens, continuous cropping barriers and excessive waste of water and fertilizer, enabling year-round clean, fast-cycle and high-yield crop production for industrial agriculture.
The whole hydroponic tower is assembled with food-grade UV-resistant modified PVC modules, containing no toxic heavy metals that may contaminate crops. Special anti-aging ingredients are added to resist long-term exposure to high temperature, high humidity and intense ultraviolet rays inside greenhouses, preventing yellowing, brittleness and permanent deformation after years of operation. The material can withstand corrosion from acidic and alkaline nutrient solutions, and smooth internal flow channels stop root tangling and sludge accumulation, cutting down the frequency of routine cleaning and unclogging work. Lightweight split components support convenient transportation and rapid on-site assembly, with an overall service life ranging from 10 to 15 years.
Its core working mechanism adopts gravity-driven circulating nutrient supply. A submersible pump delivers mixed nutrient liquid to the top of the tower, and the solution flows downward layer by layer along built-in narrow channels under gravity to form a thin nutrient film wrapping the bottom of plant roots. Roots absorb water and mineral elements from the flowing liquid film, while most root tissue is exposed to air to take in abundant dissolved oxygen, which greatly lowers the risk of root rot caused by hypoxia in deep water culture. Surplus nutrient liquid converges into the bottom water tank for re-circulation, forming a fully closed water and fertilizer loop. This design reduces water consumption by more than 90% and fertilizer waste by nearly half compared with traditional soil planting, realizing eco-friendly and low-cost agricultural production.
Each layer of the tower is equipped with evenly spaced circular planting holes to hold standard net pots and fix seedlings. The independent vertical structure barely takes up greenhouse ground space, and neatly arranged multiple towers can lift overall planting density by 3–5 times compared with flat hydroponic facilities. Staggered layers follow ergonomic design; growers can complete seedling replacement, daily inspection and harvesting in a standing posture without frequent bending, easing labor fatigue and improving daily working efficiency. Customization on tower height, layer quantity and planting hole number is available to match different greenhouse dimensions and crop varieties.
Matched with circulating pumps, water-fertilizer integrated machines and real-time EC & pH monitoring sensors, the hydroponic tower system realizes automatic precise nutrient management. Operators can adjust liquid concentration and water circulation frequency according to seedling, vigorous growth and fruiting stages to stabilize crop yield and upgrade the taste and uniformity of vegetables and berries. Without contact with soil, the infection rate of nematodes and wilt fungi drops sharply, pesticide application is greatly reduced, and harvested produce is residue-free to meet high-end supermarket and international export standards.
Supporting uninterrupted annual continuous cropping without fallow periods, the hydroponic tower breaks seasonal planting restrictions in cold climate regions. Featuring ultra-high space utilization, simple maintenance and remarkable comprehensive economic benefits, it has become one of the most popular vertical hydroponic facilities for modern intensive commercial agriculture worldwide.
